Injury (PF/heel spurs) + no training + marathon = fun?
I had huge reservations entering this race. My PF didnt really worry me (it is just a mild ache) but my lack of fitness did. I ran about 5 miles total in January; and didnt really do any other exercise. Previous months were similarly bad, like 20miles in Dec. Yeah, I am ready for a marathon.
Well it turned out a lot better than expected! This is one of my favorite races - it is close to my parents house, it is along the beach, the medal is awesome, and the weather is usually cool. I was running by myself for a few miles, chatting with people while they pass me by. Around mile 3 I was running with another fellow (Basil) who was in a similar situation - injured and didnt run in Jan. He was doing a run walk interval (2:1 - 2 mins run, 1 min walk) and I decided to stick with him. He thought he might drop out of the race or at the least drop out with the half marathoners. We had a nice conversation and it helped so much to pass the time. I talked him into going the full distance - it wasnt that difficult =) Around mile 21 we had to walk the rest of the way. We were slow, but so what. This was a personal worst for me by 30 mins. It was a great day, I had fun, and I saw a bunch of Marathon Maniacs out there!
Next day my PF doesnt ache... whew =) but my body is just one big cramp... so sore! lol.

Wow, gutsy to do that without any real training. Glad you didn't aggravate your PF.

Maybe the full-body cramp will cancel out any other pointed injuries you have. :) Cracks me up that you did this w/no recent training. :)
