Wow, not a great day of running. Since I tweaked my groin yesterday I decided not to run in the snow. I really did want to run with snowflakes coming down. Something very fun about fresh snowprints... read more

Did some speed work on the treadmill. I was a little unsure if I should do 800 repeats so soon after the 50k. I felt really strong for the first 3 and was really happy and then about 400 meters int... read more

To me, the decision between marathons and ultras is easy. The more relaxed atmosphere combined with the scenery of a long trail run makes it an easy winner. Then again, "racing" has never really appealed to me (maybe because I'm not fast?). Either way, though, $10 for a race entry where you can eat chicken noodle soup, potato chips, cookies and drink Mt. Dew? Sign me up! :) Congratulations again!

This is such great feedback and I really like the comments. Marty, you are so right about that run. It is the best bargain in the running world. I love the trails and it is kind of nice to relax and enjoy the run while still testing yourself. I am going to the trails more and more. I just signed up for a half iron but I guess I will have to consider a 50 miler in fall lol

Such a fun time out there! Just as spirits started to sag a bit in our group, there you were yelling and cheering. Congratulations on your first ultra, Brian! It seems fitting that it was at the John Dick, too, since you were the one who first told me about it last year. Not to mention that whole "first trail run" thing Jess mentioned (that was HER first trail run too... and look at HER now!).

I pick up the trail at the Hwy P trailhead. I did not wear spikes but probably could have used them. I just used my Saucony Peregrines and they are great shoes with good traction but they have limitations of course. Steve, I am still working on Kevin about Baltimore. I love it out there and seeing you would be a nice bonus. Thanks for all the great comments.

Nice job blazing the trail in the snow! You can take Dean next year, you have the advantage of detaliled knowledge of the terrain.
