I felt great running 6 miles uptown to meet Gia A. and Meggie. Once we got to the start I had a chance to say hi to Rebecca K. and Theodora B. since I was behind them in the corral. I was still feeling good (9:39, 9:38, 9:52 first 3 miles of the 10 mile race) and then at mile 3.5 when I went to grab fuel from my back pocket I found nothing. I must have forgotten it at home. This immediately freaked me out as I had 7 more miles and was starting to feel empty since I'd had nothing other than NUUN after my 6 earlier. I brought the pace down to around a 10:40 and held that until the last 2 miles when I had to bring it down to closer to an 11 as I had nothing left in my system. At mile 7.5 I luckily found 3 old Cliff Blocks in my Camelbak when I stopped to search. I took 2 then and saved one for after the race when I ran the last 1.5 miles towards the subway station. Overall this wasn't my best run but I felt pretty strong considering my crazy travel week and lack of sleep last night. I can also feel a significant difference in my ability to push through things versus last year.
