I went into this race with a goal of 2:10 to 2:15. Needless to say, I'm thrilled! My friend Dave caught me in the first mile and we ran the whole race together. He's a super ultrarunner and was just running this one for fun. I can definitely say that if he hadn't stuck with me, I wouldn't have done as well as I did. He had some great stories to tell.
The first half was slightly downhill, second half had lots of hills. I started out faster than I had planned, but I kept a sub-10 pace for the first half of the race. Had some slower miles when we had lots of hills. I walked through all the water stops and took my GU at mile 8.
Splits: 9:48, 10:06, 9:33, 9:59, 9:47, 9:53, 10:10, 10:11, 10:27, 10:17, 10:35, 10:26, 10:08, and the last .2 at 8:43.
The most important thing to state is that this is a TWENTY-MINUTE PR. My first half was Via last September and I did that one in 2:33. Never in my wildest dreams would I have expected to run over 1:30 per mile faster 7 months later. I'm shocked and amazed at my progress, and sub-2:10 is definitely on the horizon for me.
