great Midnight run by moonlight 11.79 mi 02:17 11:37 pace

I did this run for a few reasons. I LOVE the full moon and the fact that it was night time...the middle of the night actually. I've never run in the night. Last weekend, my first real trail run, this week my first night run. What in the world is next?!

Here's what was incomprehensible about tonight. At night, when the sun goes down, all my senses are aroused. I'm scared of the dark normally so I'm hypervigilant in every way. My ears were sensitive to sounds, my eyes were working hard to find any figure, shadow or change in the scenery, my skin was happy to feel the coolness of the night (63 perfect degrees), my nose smelled all the aromas of night.

I need to hurry up and get to bed but I could write here for hours. Just a few highlights. I ran with Jon Kinzer who was a super nice guy. He was very encouraging and made me feel like I had something to offer. At the beginning of the run, we were running kind of high on a ditch bank and I could hear some rustling over my left shoulder. As I looked over there, I could see that there was a field down below and three horses were running along side of us. Honestly I could not figure out what those humungous creatures were and all I could think was they were dogs. I started laughing so hard when I realized they were horses. They were only like 50 feet away! Seriously I thought they were ginormous dogs. Then along the canal the moon was breath taking. I wanted to lay down and stare at the moon all night long. It's so calming and soothing. I LOVE it! We didn't have any problems with cars. The beauty, the serenity...I am doing this again and again and AGAIN! I LOVE IT!!!!!!!!! Like I said mutliple times on this run, "running at night was a trillion times better than what I had imagined!"

Love It!

I get home from work at midnight. I was so tempted to put on the shoes and go for a run! Now I wish I had. I just might do it on Sunday night when I get home from work. I have a workout plan for my race in 3 weeks and I don't want to stray too far from the plan at this point.
