This run was all about race prep for next week. I did half the distance of next week's race and wore my planned race gear trying out how it would feel to run in my compression base layer and new speedcross trail racing shoes. Terrain was still challenging with a mix of dry trail, snow, ice and mud. I didn't feel great to start with but then again I started with a 5:29 km. Given this was supposed to be an easy base run I was running at the wrong pace. One thing I've got to get better at is slowing down the pace for my base runs. Currently I'm doing them at the same pace as my core speed and endurance workouts and there's not much variation in pace across my workouts. New gear though was great :-)
