Jeff Galloway's plan has a "magic mile" on the short weekend runs (every other week, on the off weeks from the long runs). They don't officially show up on my training program for another couple of weeks, but I'm already starting to time my first mile of these, and push myself a bit. Two weeks ago, it was 14:56; this week? 13:46. Honestly not sure how that happened, but it seems that my shorter/faster intervals might be working.
