alright Back to the drawing board, but it's okay... 7.58 mi 01:05 08:37 pace

First run back after two weeks off due to illness.

I feel relatively fine when I'm not running, but my respiratory system is still struggling. It took until the last 5 minutes of the run for my hamstrings to loosen up enough for my stride to be somewhat normal. I had to keep my HR low to avoid coughing.

So, back to the drawing board in all things running -- but frankly, I love a challenge.

Contemplating doing shorter distances over the next few months and through winter, I'm not going to be able to get back to form to crank out a marathon in the short term and I want to rebuild a strong aerobic base (similar to the 50-55 mpw that I had going earlier this year) before getting seriously into training. I also want to get more experience running on trails.

There's a lot that I've learned this year about running and how my body responds to it. I have a great deal more progress to make with regard to nutrition, periodization, planning, and cross-training but I feel as though I'm getting there -- much of that has happened with a great deal of help from you, fellow running compatriots. Thank you!

Who knows, maybe my body will snap back into place and I'll be able to restart base building in earnest sooner rather than later.

Man, 2 weeks is tough to have to sit on the sidelines. You sound like you are going to take it slow coming back, which is absolutely the right thing to do. A lot of people would try to pick right back up (probably me included) and end up with an injury. I hope you find that your body is still feeling good, and you are pleasantly surprised at what you can still accomplish this year. I hope you are still planning to go complete the marathon on 11/29 - I think you still have that in you.

Glad to see you back at it. Take it slow, but I'll bet you'll be surprised how quickly you feel like your old self again.
