Man, 2 weeks is tough to have to sit on the sidelines. You sound like you are going to take it slow coming back, which is absolutely the right thing to do. A lot of people would try to pick right back up (probably me included) and end up with an injury. I hope you find that your body is still feeling good, and you are pleasantly surprised at what you can still accomplish this year. I hope you are still planning to go complete the marathon on 11/29 - I think you still have that in you.

Glad to see you back at it. Take it slow, but I'll bet you'll be surprised how quickly you feel like your old self again.

Definitely getting sick - cut the run short because of coughing fits and wanting to take it easy on the achilles.

'Tis the season for upper respiratory crud. Now if only people on BART would cover their faces when coughing or sneezing, it might help ... read more

@ Jeff - hopefully you'll be able to avoid this one. How are you feeling?

I know how you feel, my taper was a little overboard because of it. Feeling OK today - quads sore, toes blistered, but otherwise doing better than after previous marathons.

Run felt fine, the aftermath is a little concerning.

Left achilles feels 'creaky' for lack of a better term. It's a strange and unpleasant sensation. The point of discomfort is where the tops of my running shoes make contact. Could this be caused by t... read more

Ice and heat are good. Also stretching with a rope works for me. I recently had a bunch of achilles problems.

      Here's some taping techniques: http://www.runnersworld.com/article/0,7120,s6-241-285--8271-2-1-2,00.html

How are you running - on the ball of your foot? Did you recently switch up your stride or gait at all?

Massage is another option, and making sure your calves are flexible.

Here's a stretch you can do against the wall if you don't have a rope.

Sometimes tendonitis subsides or disappears when you run because the tendons warm up a bit. It is odd though that you wouldn't feel it at all, and maybe that's a good sign. Try both ice and heat... heat works better for some folks, and ice for others... It just depends.

Thanks so much Chaz. Yeah, I don't feel it at all when running. And even now after walking around a bit at work it is less creaky. I brought my ice pack to work so I'm going to wrap up my ankle with that while I'm sitting here.

After teaching an intro class, took part in TKD workout. A little kicking, a little sparring - all fun.

Took it easy on the ankle, no spinning or jump kicks.

You are really rocking these days - I love it! The Newtons have been treating you well, and all the base building you did before getting into your focused training cycle is paying off as well. Keep it up!

Hey Caleb. Thanks for the kind words and the encouragement. I'm hoping to stay healthy through the next couple of months and have a good time on race day. Your training has been real inspiration - looking forward to your Boston prep. How your 2:53 legs feeling?

It doesn't feel great at the moment, but I'm sitting at work with an ice pack on it. I don't think it'll be a big deal. (Fingers crossed!)
