Day 111!

Rebecca's training schedule called for 18 today. I wanted to do 20, so I ran 2 before she arrived at the house. We got about 2-4 inches on the ground, and many of the roads had not yet been plowed. The snow was still falling lightly when we departed.

The first 6-8 miles were tough. The footing was terrible. There was ice and slush under the snow, and the banks forced us into the road where we had to dodge cars and plows. We did sort of a loop out and back, and came back up Brattle St, which I was not that familiar with. Turns out it was just over a 4% grade, which was even more challenging given the road conditions.

We took a turn and went down a seldom traveled road past the town forest, which was actually quite beautiful. No cars. Just the wind blown snow in the trees and the fresh coat on the roadways. This was my favorite stretch of the run. It was like running through a winter painting.

She had asked me if we could finish with a handful of loops through the residential area near my house. We got there at about mile 13 (for her). After one loop she said that there was no way she could take the boredom, and headed back out onto 31 toward the mountain for a couple miles and turned around to make the 18.

Lots of walk breaks for me, as I kept getting way ahead and would then slow down to wait for her. After her mile 15, she was really fatigued with sore shoulders, back, and feet, and we walked some more. Today was more about time on feet and enduring the elements than it was about hitting some pace.

Back at the house, there was a fresh pot of coffee and some freshly baked muffins. I may eat the whole batch.

I hope you all had a great day running and racing (especially those in Hyannis!).

Happy Sunday Everyone!

Great job! It's nice that you can appreciate the beauty of the winter painting scene. I'd already be totally sick of it by now. Way to keep a great attitude and crank out the mileage!

Yikes didn't mean to piss in your water bottle with the "sunny and 50s" comment while you are running in 2-4 inches of snow. Still, nice 20!
