As a distance runner for more than 30+ years, I cannot describe my joy seeing an American medal in the 10K. I am also so happy for their (Mo Farah(GB) = gold medalist, Galen Rupp(USA) = silver medalist) coach Alberto Salazar who I met in '07 at Nike HQ in Beaverton, OR. We spoke about training protocols, his recent heart attack, his win at the prestigious Comrades Ultramarathon (56 miles) and his wins at Boston and New York. He mentioned how his son had the same name as myself. "Alex, that's a good name." I was also fortunate to run on the same track that Mo and Galen train on, one of the few in the world with a forested infield. Maybe these wins are what's necessary to overcome the psychological advantage the Africans have in distance running? Now, I'll wait to see how they do in the 5K. Don't good things happen in bunches? :-)
