Low fuel and high heat always make it hard for me to nail my splits too. You did a great job staying so steady for the four you did at tempo!! Own that accomplishment! :D Next time, eat more and run earlier and you'll feel it's easy by comparison!

It's hard to do, but timing your walk breaks even before you feel like it helps in "the long run". ;) I've read it is good to plan your walk breaks through the aid stations for a known event. No more than 1 minute as you will start to cramp up. I usually go about 2mi run 1 min walk. Try some "dates" for quick natural energy. ;)

Thanks Calvin - sounds like a plan to try - we still have time to tweak this out - definitely noticing the increased calorie needs (well, notice when I DON'T get them) on these longer runs - :)

damn girl! I just read a blog about walking during long runs -- just a few minutes throughout to recover a bit. apparently it causes faster pace bc your muscles recover quickly with the little walk. I think I was on RW and mentioned the guy whose book you're reading.
