75 degrees + 75% humidity meant that the cloud cover & winds were my saviors on this run. Could have been rough otherwise. But it felt good to get active again after taking most of last week off! Rested legs & excitement made me start out way harder than usual, so I assumed I wouldn't get a negative split this time. But toward the end I pushed VERY hard to chase that split down. It worked - by 40 seconds! So 1st half at 10:13mi, 2nd half at 9:51/mi. Speedy! Especially while sweating a LOT. Just turned 32, so this was a nice start to my 33rd year. You know, after all the partying.

No worries, Ken! You were prepping for a hardcore marathon! But the story is that Marc M. convinced me to try a mile in 8:32 on my 32nd bday. I was nervous because it was hot, I was exhausted & dehydrated, hadn't done speed training since April, and had never just tried to run 1 mile all out (my fastest on record in a 5K was 9:20). But I tried it. It was painful, and I wanted to quit the whole time, but somehow I clocked in at 8:13! That was right before I went out with my friends for festivities :)
