Scenery... one of the reasons we run :) Way to make it sweet-smelling, too! Yeah, Newts hardly ever go on sale... Sometimes, expos give you a break. Hit some of the ones coming up, as racing season gets underway. You don't need to be running to attend, so keep an eye out.
-
I got so lucky when I bought mine. Running Away was selling them 25% off, and they were like "We never have these on sale..." Now I use them sparingly because I have 460 miles on them.

Huh, it's awesome silly. Besides it was like 70 when I ran on the lakefront where it's usually cooler. So, what's wrong with that? Can't complain about it being too cold, too hot, all the time, that's lame. Besides, race day weather won't change because you want it to, may as well adjust to what mother nature dishes out.

Hey! :P Marc was smart to go shorter today. I think this couple of weeks where we transition from the awesome spring weather to the -ugh-are-u-kidding-me warmer weather is the worst. Two days ago, it was 15 degrees cooler! But, like Marc, all I can keep thinking is I need to be ready for Howl. Brandon's been throwing me out in this heat, too. Geesh, I was close, this >< close, to passing out yesterday. What's his response, "Good times." I'm running early tomorrow!
-
I guess my philosophy is to enjoy the perfect spring weather while we still have it, at whatever time of day it's nicest. So far my runs have still not been painful at all, temp-wise. You guys still have almost 3 months to prepare for Howl - don't be too hard on yourselves now, and definitely avoid passing out! Tricia!

Side note, this is the first time in 5 weeks that I've gotten a work-week run in prior to Thurs. Yeesh, it's been a busy month. I should be getting out there Mon. or Tues. and not backloading all these runs at the end of the week, but Weds. is a start.

Alright Ursula! I used to live off the lake near Belmont, so I'd run the path through the park and the zoo a lot. It was fun. I'd also plan to either run from or to work, either bringing extra clothes with me the day before to change into, or just bringing the old ones back the next day. I know some people carry them with in a backpack, but I didn't want the extra weight or bulk on my run. Solid pace! Enjoy the spring!

@Mary, I work in a public housing project. Not specifically for folks with disabilities, but due to lifelong low-income status people have tons of chronic health problems and exercise hasn't always been a priority (or safe). Thanks for loving social workers, and for what you do!

You are a terrible influence!! :-P Also, I hear you have to do like 50 miles a week to train for a full. There's no way I'd have time!

I don't think you have to run 50 miles a week to train for a full marathon. I did the Hal Higdon plan and the most I ever ran in a single week was 40 miles, and that was only one time. If you want to CRUSH a marathon then you probably need more mileage. Check out some plans online and see if you think you could handle it. In the meantime, great runs these last few days!

Great half and congrats on your new PR! I like the detailed write-up. Had to laugh when I read your comment about trusting your instincts and taking off. At my 2nd marathon I started with the 4HR pace group, took off from them on the first mile, caught up to the 3:50 pace group, then took off from them at mile 7 or 8. From that point on it was a determined battle not to let them catch me! I finished with a 3:45. Ever since then I've just paced myself.

CONGRATULATIONS! I see Meadowbrook still gets clogged, and I know they had instituted the wave start hoping to offset this issue. If they continue to get negative feedback about it, they may be force to change the course (or, if they decide to grow the race). Sweet splits, my dear. I don't judge, and besides, why do you think they make running gear with fast-drying, wicking materials? :)
-
@Tim, that's a hilarious story! @Letitia, THANK YOU! That last mile was painful, but the splits explain why it was painful, and I'm really proud of it. I just wish I'd been at full strength like that for more of the race. But I'll let it go :) @Tricia, even with the wave start the path is like 4 people across, plus some people start in a faster wave than they should. I actually love Meadowbrook for its scenery and shade, so I'm not ready to give them negative feedback yet. And good point ;)

Here's a little motivation back.
You should organize a 5K flash mob, where suddenly in the middle of a 5K a bunch of runners start busting a move. Well, maybe after the first mile in case people get too tired to shake it with much enthusiasm.

I SHOULD do that! And it doesn't matter how tired you are. Last week I did this 6 miles in. That roof-raising and booty shaking GIVES you momentum. Running-dance aerobic empire here I come!
