      so how do you determine how many miles? i would have guessed 1000 flights equated to maybe 8-9 miles based on steps

      I go by the display on the machine, Thats what it says for distance. Roughly 17,000 stairs. I never have actually walked up 1000 flights with a pedometer on so I just use the computer in the machine. I am on running hiatus for a while to let the legs rest, I like the steps because they are non-impact compared to running.
