I have just embarked on a 3 weeks sans alcohol challenge … It's not terribly hard since my wife isn't drinking (for different, by now obvious reason;) The real challenge is to fight the sleepiness that comes from the caloric deficit (?). Running sure helps to wake up :D

I'm glad you weren't able to catch any sleep as this would certainly have interrupted the flow of being awake for such a long time ;)
Your recap sounds too good to be true—I guess I'll have to find out myself what's it like to be out there on such a long trail…
I'm glad you got a second pair of poles and could finish in a *very* nice position!!! As I said before: I hear you calling, pushing, whenever the going gets rough :D

Thanks! Oh yeah UTMB was way harder than I(diot) thought! :)

In the end time or place don't matter, in Chamonix we were all just UTMB Finishers and the atmosphere there was incredible.

The longer race report will be available in my blog when Trailplodder returns to Planet Earth :)

My simple UTMB 168km (104 miles) strategy. With 2300 starters on Friday and crowds cheering, I've been told it's easy to run way too fast. +9600m (31,500ft) climbing is tough though. Foll... read more

This is my strategy for most rides and races. The price for mistakes is a bit steeper here though. :-) Good luck Trailplodder. You've got this!
