Sorry to beat a dead horse but I am again soliciting advice on marathon training plans. I was considering the Pfitz 55 and the 2 Hal Higdon advanced plans. I did the Hal Higdon Advanced half marathon plan last fall and it worked out well for me. I'll probably also check out the Jack Daniels Running Formula. I'm pretty sure the are plans in there as well.

You're a strong runner so you'll do well with either. That said pfitz has much more science behind it. His plans are built on the principles of Daniels. I just sat through a rcaa coaching certification class...it convinced me to go the route of pfitz for my marathon

Good luck with your final decision, Tom. I'm using Pfitz for the 2nd time for my fall marathon. And I've read Daniels' Running Formula and Pftitz's Advanced Marathoning, and I agree w/ Rachel: they go together very well.

I think you guys have sold me on Pfitz over Higdon. Some additional reading I've done backs up your case. So that's probably what I'll end up doing. I'm going to go back and check out The Daniels Running Formula. Marathon training starts this weekend for me, so this is my week for a little rest & research.

Rachel, what does RCAA stand for by the way?

Tom, I have a copy of Pfitzinger's book that has all the science bits. If we ever find a way for meet up one of these weekends then I could loan it to you.

Just don't go overboard drinking Jack Daniels, remember the Tequila training plan didn't work so well for the dude in Branford ;)

rrca = road runners club of america. its a big nonprofit devoted to national road running, and they do all the coaching certification. i'm just an exam away from being an official certified running coach!

@Chris - That'd be great. It would be nice to see the logic behind the plan, and I could use some good reading for the train. Maybe you could join me for 2/3 of my Sunday long run. I need to work out my weekend schedule with my wife. I've been skipping running on the weekends lately.

@Susan - I'll stick to the Jack Daniel's running formula, and stay away from the Jack Daniels drinking formula. That's what got me in trouble back in college. :)

@Rachel - Very cool! Good luck with your exam!

Jack Daniels often goes by his nick name, Tupper, so that people don't get confused.
