Amazing run through Roosevelt Forest today. The body felt great. It just felt amazing running through the woods. I felt like a deer, or "el Venado" a la "Born to Run". I may... read more

First 3 weeks of Hartford training done. I've run 19 straight days, beating my previous high of 6 (I always used to like my rest days). The boring stuff is mostly behind me, the fun stuff wi... read more

I used to LOVE my rest days. This past training I changed things up so that I would run less miles/day and stretched it out to 6 days/week and then increase each days mileage throughout training. You are doing amazing!

great Morning Run 6 mi 00:48 07:58 pace
Felt better this morning. Plus I got to run in shorts and my MRR tank top today. A nice change from the low 40s we had the other day. The knee felt great today, hopefully that's all behind ... read more

How long is the race next week? I'm running mcm (two weeks after Hartford) and I'm racing a 10k in two weeks. As long as you keep running, we are so far out from the marathon...i don't see how a short race will set you back - provided you are healthy, of course

It's only a 4 miler, but with I've been only doing easy runs for the last 3+ weeks (and wasn't in the greatest shape before that) and I'm I'll push too hard and end up injured or sore for a number of days. This is the first time I've really put in the time in my base training phase and I want to see if it pays off.

I could run it easy, but the main reason I was going to run it was to help my club's USATF team, and if I run it easy I doubt I would do any good.

Morning Run 5.5 mi 00:46 08:16 pace
With Tom B. Fortunately there was no soreness in my right knee as I had for a bit yesterday. There was a little stiffness in my right hip, but that loosened up quickly.

I've been hearing some good stuff about Jack Daniels lately. Nice job on the fartlek. I did these on a regular basis for a while when I first began running and they were very effective, I need to start working them back into my program.

good While you were Sleeping 4 mi
Got two runs in while my family was sleeping. One at around 9:40 last night and then this one at 5:40 AM. Will probably have to be creative like this to get my miles in for marathon training.

not easy training with lots of other commitments (family being the best and biggest). way to get creative....many a nights I have been on the TM :)

Thanks Tracy. I have no TM, so sometimes I have to be extra creative. Last night I figured that since I run in the morning in the dark, why not run at night in the dark. :)

You will be fine, plenty of time, and I know you can doit with 50-mile weeks. Just stay healthy and get good quality long runs. Hartford is a good course for a first marathon. You will do great I am sure. (What's the goal?)

I'd like to break 3:00. But being my first I'd be happy with < 3:05. I really want to qualify for Boston. It would be nice to run it in 2014. But if it's already full I don't mind waiting for 2015. You interested in doing Boston again?

Your mom has a point...to truly race a marathon, 70+ mile weeks (really 100 mile weeks) is kinda what it takes. That being said, you can def run a solid marathon with 50-55 mpw. I'm personally not sure how many more miles my body or mind is really willing to take past 55-60 mpw...it's all about finding the balance in your life and what works for you

@Cheryl. Upon further inspection the stick actually did more damage than the fall. Scraped up my calf a bit. Nothing serious though.
