  3. First 3 weeks of Hartford training done. I've run 19 straight days, beating my previous high of 6 (I always used to like my rest days). The boring stuff is mostly behind me, the fun stuff wi... read more

I used to LOVE my rest days. This past training I changed things up so that I would run less miles/day and stretched it out to 6 days/week and then increase each days mileage throughout training. You are doing amazing!

How long is the race next week? I'm running mcm (two weeks after Hartford) and I'm racing a 10k in two weeks. As long as you keep running, we are so far out from the marathon...i don't see how a short race will set you back - provided you are healthy, of course

It's only a 4 miler, but with I've been only doing easy runs for the last 3+ weeks (and wasn't in the greatest shape before that) and I'm I'll push too hard and end up injured or sore for a number of days. This is the first time I've really put in the time in my base training phase and I want to see if it pays off.

I could run it easy, but the main reason I was going to run it was to help my club's USATF team, and if I run it easy I doubt I would do any good.

With Tom B. Fortunately there was no soreness in my right knee as I had for a bit yesterday. There was a little stiffness in my right hip, but that loosened up quickly.

I've been hearing some good stuff about Jack Daniels lately. Nice job on the fartlek. I did these on a regular basis for a while when I first began running and they were very effective, I need to start working them back into my program.

Thanks Arthur. I have the Jack Daniels Running Formula. I swear by that book. He has a 24 week marathon plan that I'm following. I am just starting week 3. The first 6 weeks are foundation building.

Got two runs in while my family was sleeping. One at around 9:40 last night and then this one at 5:40 AM. Will probably have to be creative like this to get my miles in for marathon training.

You will be fine, plenty of time, and I know you can doit with 50-mile weeks. Just stay healthy and get good quality long runs. Hartford is a good course for a first marathon. You will do great I am sure. (What's the goal?)

I'd like to break 3:00. But being my first I'd be happy with < 3:05. I really want to qualify for Boston. It would be nice to run it in 2014. But if it's already full I don't mind waiting for 2015. You interested in doing Boston again?

Your mom has a point...to truly race a marathon, 70+ mile weeks (really 100 mile weeks) is kinda what it takes. That being said, you can def run a solid marathon with 50-55 mpw. I'm personally not sure how many more miles my body or mind is really willing to take past 55-60 mpw...it's all about finding the balance in your life and what works for you
