Trying to work on my landing, so I was concentrating pretty hard and just wore myself out :-) Not really. The rest of my day is what wore me out, but that's neither here nor there.
The dang little gnat bugs are out in full force and were messing with my breathing. I kept trying to blow them away cause I didn't feel like having bug for breakfast. I guess I need to just deal with the crunchies and breathe properly. My foot is doing ok. That's why I'm working on my landing so much, to try and not land so hard on those nerves in the ball. They're so sensitive!:-) I'm getting excited about my long run coming up on Saturday. If all goes according to plan, I'll get in 9 or so miles. I'll be alone on this one cause the hubby has to go to Vegas for business. I'm torn on that. I love to spend time with him and I also like to run alone. I guess I get the best of both worlds sometimes.

When I started working on that softer, lighter foot landing it seems like I discovered a whole new set of muscles. My pace slowed but it is a lot healthier type of running for me now. Even with my Vibrams, I think I still have the tendency hit the ground harder than I should. Those longer distances is where I really noticing the discomfort. Fatigue will cause my form to subtly deteriorate and, before I know it, I would start slapping the ground just to get the run over with. Good luck on Saturday!

Nice work on your landings. I need to focus on my heel strike and I can appreciate that it's just do much easier to go with what you know than learn something new. Enjoy your 9 on Saturday. :)

Is it better to land on the heel or ball of the foot? I usually run heel first, but feet were a little sore today, so ran on the ball of my foot for a while and it really lit my calves up and let me run a bit faster. Is there a "right" way?

Annie, I've been running in Vibram five fingers for over a year, and the only way to run in them is to land on your forefoot. No heel striking or you'll do some major damage. Some people swear by heel striking, some by forefoot/midfoot striking. My calves have never been in better shape then they are now, not even when I was kickboxing in my early 20's. Try both ways and do what feels right to you:-)
