First run of my 16 week half marathon training! Stopped and bought Mega Millions tickets while I was out. :)

I'm using a Smart Coach personalized training program from Runners World. I was supposed to run this at a 12:35 pace, but that is just too slow. I stayed at a pace that was comfortable for me - thoughts?

Let me know how it goes, I'm thinking of using this one as my half gets closer! and I think you never go backwards so comfortable pace is fine!

Woohoo on officially starting your half marathon training! I loosely used the Smart Coach training plan when I was training for my marathon, but I didn't worry too much about the pace it recommended. If it was a day that called for speed work, I tried to run faster than normal. If it was a long slow run, I ran a little on the slow side. Bottom line: I ran at whatever pace felt right that day.

Faithrider, I'll keep you posted. Stay tuned!

Thanks Brandon. That makes sense, and goes along with my thinking as well. Speed work doesn't come naturally to me, running at a comfortable pace does. :)

    Thanks Jim!

Great Run Bonnie, my best advice is to run at a comfortable pace but you should always do your long runs a little slower then you plan to run the race, running slow improves the enzymatic properties of your muscles which allows to run longer and recover more easily! Hope that helps!

Well done. I think that any training program should be use only as a reference.
