great Zionsville Grand Prix 12.11 mi 00:30 24.5mph pace

Temp 75. Wind, 4-6 mph. Unfortunately, this race was not very well organized or officiated. I'm not sure it was USA Cycling sanctioned, which is probably why it's not as organized as I've become accustomed to. Here's why I'm mentioning this...

First the "official" didn't go through the normal pre-race speech - safety, respect the town, citizens, etc., so no throwing water bottles or energy wrappers on the course, etc., etc., etc. The only things he mentioned were no wheel pit and no free laps for our race. Then it was "Ok, go," just like that. I wasn't even clipped into one pedal yet. Since it was a "surprise" start I didn't even get to start my bike computer, so the time and speed are "good guesses" based on the guys that finished close to me.

Now the surprise start is still not an excuse for how well or how poorly I raced (poorly). I've definitely over trained because in the last two races I haven't been able to keep up a 25+ mph average. In previous races I've had 25+ and even a 26+, so my avg race speed has come down in races. What this means is I've been getting dropped from the lead group almost from the start - same with this race. I ended up up about a half a lap behind the lead group (0.5 mile course).

Now the BIG DISPUTE! This "official" had me finishing 13th out 16 and I know that's not right. I lapped two stragglers twice so that's 14th. But then I was running with 3 guys mid race and I ended up dropping them and they didn't pass me again, so that's 11th. Then towards the end of the race I got on someone's wheel and he and I took turns pulling for 4-5 laps. On the last lap I was ahead of him and he didn't pass me again so that's 10th. So MY official race finish is 10th regardless of what the race official says!
