Well, this race was kind of a last second decision! I had thought about running it a lot time ago as a training run, but I was really unsure if I would be at a point in my running that I could handle the distance. I just came back 8 weeks ago from a 2-month layoff from an injury, so I was cutting it close. My longest run was last Sunday and was 10.4 miles in 1 hour 50 minutes. So, I decided that I could probably handle it, but not run a great time. My plan was to run this as a slow run (10:30-10:45 min/mile), but what happens when you're at a race and you get excited? You run faster, lol. I tried to slow down at the beginning, but after mile 3, I just settled into a 10:00 min/mile pace. I felt really good, my breathing felt great, and I just went with hit. This course was randomly hilly, with the first hills coming around mile 2. There was a big bridge around mile 10.25 and a huge, steep hill at mile 11. I mean, that hill at mile 11 was completely ridiculous and unnecessary, lol. Who puts that big of a hill at the end of a race??? I ended up walking the bridge, and off and on till the finish line. By mile 10, I was just wore out. I definitely ran the race too fast, and payed for it, lol. If you look at my splits, it's lots of 10:00's, then the last three miles are like 12:00's. But, I am very very happy with how I did! To have finished this race and felt that good during most of it, and only training for 8 weeks, and coming back from my injury, I am very proud of myself! The Charleston Distance Run is in exactly 2 weeks, so I have another solid week of training, and a mini taper, and I'll be good to go. Last year I ran it in 2:28 with lots of training. This year, I have no idea what to shoot for, but it won't be any faster than last year. Splits: 10:03, 10:28, 10:36, 10:04, 10:16, 10:01, 10:02, 10:03, 10:11, 10:12, 11:43, 12:03, 11:18, 1:30 (0.17 mi)
