Shin splints were my weak point when I started running about 2 years ago. Every run was controlled/scheduled by the amount of shin pain I was in. This lasted about 7-8 months. The only thing that fixed my shin splints was a full changeover to "barefoot/forefoot" style running shoes. This is/can be a very slow, patience testing process, but has been very worth it for me. It has been well over a year before I have even thought of shin splints. Feel free to inbox for more info on my personal struggle.

Thanks everyone! I just downloaded "Born to Run" on my Kindle. I'm sure I'll learn a lot about technique. I know I need to stretch more so Jen I'm hoping that's all it is. Sheldon, I definitely want to know more about what you've been through. I'll message you!

Hi-five:
That is really wonderful news Susan. I think that it is only human to cycle through times of low motivation, especially for DM'ers who never seem to do anything half-way.
