Last night I got up from the couch and walked into the kitchen and there it was...pain in my right foot. Out of nowhere. I had run early in the day and felt no hint of anything all day. And yet, there was a sharp pain where my heel meets my arch.
It definitely feels like plantar fasciitis, only there is nothing I can think of that would have caused it to come on, especially so suddenly and randomly. My weekly mileage has been pretty low over the last month and I haven't done any sudden increases. My shoes have about 250 miles on them, but my last pair had many more miles before I replaced them and I was fine. I know it sounds weird, but I really think it might be a mental thing. So the real question is: how do you know the difference?

Never had it, but it can't hurt to treat it anyhow right?

I would suggest to maybe go for a walk. look around and occupy your mind with music or something. If the pain goes away, maybe it's mental. If it gets worse..it's for real.

The good news is that if it is real, I can run through it is I manage it properly. The bad news is it hurts like a mofo.

I had the same random pain in my ankle during the night, but I iced like crazy, took ibuprofen 600 3xday, xt'd and it was gone in 2 days! Take it easy!

Plantar is a tricky one. Typically it hurts more in the morning and eases up as the day goes on. Have you changed the shoes you wear during the day? Been standing more? The Strassburg sock, which you wear while you sleep, can be a great tool for stubborn cases. Like Heather said, icing and rolling help too. Good luck.

I think I had that for a year in my thirties. Every night time bathroom trip was terrible, but once I got up in the am., rest of day, not so bad. I think you are right and that you can run through it. Just, if you get up in the middle of the night, crawl. Other than that, you will be fine hopefully.
