First ride in a week. Knee still a bit sore so meant to take it a bit easy, oops. Going to try dropping the saddle a bit to see if that takes some strain off so I can at least keep some base going.

Still avoing the big hills. Lots of standing water meant it was a bit damp in places. Glad I've finally sorted my mud guard after having to rip it off on the the BC400 at the weekend.

Still keeping it easy. Nice to ride in the sun in shorts and short sleeves for a change!

Went for a slightly flatter run in to work today to ease back in after the BC400. Not too shabby in the end. There was sun. I even dug out the shorts for only about the 3rd time this year.

brevet cymru 400km 2.25AAA Audax 405 km 21:32 11.7mph pace
Bloody hard work. GPS died so no idea of moving time and times are from brevet card.
-
What a crappy time for the GPS to die!! What a sweet ride though. This sounds like a brutal thing to do. I can't wait to try it!! So what's the deal? Did you ride straight through? Or did you try to get a little shut eye during the ride? With that time, I'm guessing you rode straight through. I'd love to hear more about your experience on this ride. Congratulations for completing this ride. Is the 600 km next on your list?

Yep, the brevet Cymru is known as one of the tougher 400s. Wales isn't a flat place :-). Went straight through, there was a control with sleep mats and stuff but it was only 60k from the finish so we decided to push through. Next up is a 1000km event in Scotland in June, the 600 is pencilled in for August.
I usually put longer ride reports up on my blog at http://napalmgram.co.uk/wordpress/ (amongst other junk :))
-
Thanks Stuart!! I must have had a brain cramp!! I'll check out the blog post. Great stuff. Congratulations. Fantastic achievement. By the way, have you done a 1000k before?

Nope, this will be my first 1000k. The proposed route looks pretty good - http://www.mapmyride.com/s/routes/view/road-cycling-map/united-kingdom/fife/50406204 - though it's not set in stone till they've done the helpers ride.

Tried to take it a bit easier this morning as shattered. Wind assisted last section kept the average up though

Suprised at how well it went after a weekend of far too much beer. Did manage to forget my magic hat though.

am commute 18.44 mi 01:06 16.9mph pace
Bit windy in places, and legs till a bit tender from the weekend. Appear to have come back from Yr Elenydd with more power but less speed.
Also passed 2000 miles for the year at some point
-
Excellent commuting miles. Nice pace too. I need to work on getting faster myself, but you know what gets more speed? Trick question. Speed. :-)

@Scott - I know. I'm happy to go out and do 190 miles with silly amounts of climbing, but the though of Interval training always put me off
@Joe - I think I might have been a bit keen. Feeling really tired today so skipping cycling. Which means I'm done for the week as it's my stag do this weekend, so not much chance of cycling :)

We live on a reasonably steep hill and the commute starts up it. My legs were NOT happy with that idea this morning!!
Was running a bit late as well so ended up cutting it a bit short. Think my legs would have actually liked a bit longer to loosen up. How yours doing?
-
My main problem was sleep deprivation - I was working till late on friday and did not get to bed till 12.30 with the alarm set for 4! Then yesterday after getting into bed about 2am I was up again at 7 (WHY???) And to top it off we had visitors over so I had to interact with people when all I really wanted to do was snooze on the sofa! Legs feel good considering but I haven't tried riding up a hill yet!

Bloody cold and wet this morning. Then windy, then wet again
Lots of hills, lots I steep hills.
Very happy with that

It was tough one! The last climb over the Long Mynd was a brute with the miles already done.

Yeah, John likes his climbs :). What time did you finish? I've not worked out my moving time yet. Just about to go for a walk to stretch the legs, probably with a stop at the pub for lunch along the way.

Around eleven to eleven thirty - I'd gave up looking at the clock by then and nearly lost the will to live on the last climb of the Long Mynd. In the back of my mind I can just imagine John having a very evil laugh as a wicked dictator as he squeezed that climb in.

Great Performance:
Great riding Stuart. There aren't any easy Long Mynd climbs that I know of so Mr Organiser really knew how to make it hurt.

Nice riding Stuart and hopefully see you at the mass start at silly hour on Saturday. I'll be easily recognisable as I'll have only had four hours sleep the night before....

Sounds like we'll both be asleep at the back. Current plan involves leaving home about half 3 to drive down to the start. Am hoping I've enough gas in the camping stove to fire up the coffee maker in the car park :)

Stuart
Take it easy - with the miles you have put in of late your base will be fine with a bit of rest.

Twiddle a nice low gear Stuart. Keep the power straining for later. Great pace tho' for a poor knee :-)
