DON'T RUN RnR, ever!! This race was a disaster! Quantity over quality when it comes to Competitor Race Group. 44k runners all over the strip, field was congested the entire race, although a "... read more

RUN
alright Beer & Bagel Run 4 mi 00:46 11:22 pace
VERY hilly cross country course, challenging but also very fun! Had to cross a creek 2 times, my legs would feel like concrete after that. But the bagel with a beer was totally worth it!

Runners: at what point do you decide to replace your running shoes? Mine have over 250 miles now and another month before another Half. Don't know if I should replace now or wait till after the ... read more

Buy now and add the new ones to your rotation. With 6 weeks, you could easily wear out your current pair and not have enough support left in them to run your best. If you rotate new and current shoes, you likely would have the opportunity of choice at your race (it may be your current pair, or it may be the new pair).

Theoretically you shouldn't have to break in new shoes if they're the right shoe for you. Or so says every coach and fitter I've ever talked to. I ran a half once in new shoes with no miles and they were fine...I'd also been wearing the same shoe for a couple years.
For me, it depends on the shoes. IE: I can get 400+ miles out of a pair of brooks adrenalines w no pain but after 150-200 the brooks ravennas are ready to retire. My body tells me when mine are shot...get achy in all my lower body joints.

Thanks to you all. I'm suspecting the pain in my knee is partly due to worn shoes. And not training properly. I'm digging my Mizunos, much lighter & more breathable than my previous Asics.

good Council Bluffs Half 13.1 mi 02:17 10:27 pace
It went better than I thought. Temps in 50's but really windy. I was my hubby's substitute so didn't train properly for this race. My left knee started to whine that last 1.5 mile. But all thin... read more

Thanks for all the nice comments, made my day! I was training for a 12/4 Half, but this cropped up about 2 weeks ago. Maybe another PR in 5 weeks; we'll see :)

Anna, not so much. It was basically a large group run, not worth $60. Even though it starts at the MAC they make you use porta-potties outside. There is no real crowd support, unless you bring your own. No goodies in goodie bag, the shirt is meh at best. The pro's: the didn't skimp on the medal (one of the nicest I've earned), the water stations were decent and well-spaced, it's a small race (guessing 300) so if that's your thing. Reg for Lincoln, a lot of fun!

blah Walnut Creek 10 mi 02:05 12:30 pace
After mile 3, left knee was whining. Then went up to left hip. Considered bailing after mile 6 but sucked it up and got it done. So after this it's taper time for Sunday's Half.

So my husband tore his meniscus and can not run. He signed up for the Council Bluffs Half next weekend. Even though I don't feel prepared, I'm gonna run it for him.

good Zoo Run 5 mi 00:49 09:49 pace
A fun run! A bit chilly but once you get started, it was fine. Left toes clenched up b/c of the cold but finally relaxed after mile 2.
