The first part of my 18 mile training run. I planned on running from Fort Benning to meet up with the CRR's, then back down with them. I would get in 18, they would get in 18 ... it was a Win-Win situation!
Started a bit late and had to increase the pace a bit to meet up with the Road Runners in Uptown Columbus. Our water drop had been made as the water fountains on the Riverwalk are turned off for the winter right now. There are water stops, but the more the merrier! Then I ran into a hurdle as the overnight rain had left the Riverwalk flooded between their mile 5 and 6 point. I diverted into the neighborhoods of S. Columbus and got to Rigdon park. After a quick pit-stop, I resumed and ran into a long-distance group heading the other way. We traded info about the flooded areas and then parted ways. No I really had to mash the peddle. I was focusing on my form and so far the run had gone well, so trying to keep my form, I sped up. I took the hill at Bull Creek faster than I ever have before just thinking about keeping my body in focus. Getting to the eight mile was a killer, but as I reached downtown, I let out a battlecry and charged to the top of the last hill. Luckily, Alice was there waiting for the other CRR's and they were just starting to come into view.
