Barefoot Running: The first rule of Barefoot running is ... start slow. SLOW. S-L-O-W.
The best advice I got was just do one block at the house. I broke that rule and did two ... sorry. Call sign is Spartan, remember?
But I did not run. I wanted to ... but I didn't.
Lessons Learned: 1) The asphalt felt better than the sidewalk. So I stayed on the sidewalk to build the feet up. (Yes, I can be an 1D10T.)
2) Always land on the fleshy part of the foot. Only landed once on the heel (by accident), and that was once to many.
3) What is the best way to get rid of the little pebbles that sometimes do get picked up by the foot? I found that the rock would dislodge after letting it's presence be known for 2 steps.
4) Yes, the feet will get dirty ... but surprisingly, not that dirty. I had a pair of Crocs by the door to jump into when I got done, though.
5) By paying close attention to the feet, you can really notice a difference in how they react without shoes on. The toes seem almost in shock that they are allowed to move freely; not confined by the toe-box.
I am going to take it slowly, but I think this may be a great new running experience. I also think it will be quite awhile before I even get up to 2 miles in bare feet!
