  1. RUN
good Outdoor Newtons 6.21 mi 00:54 08:41 pace

First outdoor run in the Newtons. First 1/2 mile felt a bit strange then a bit better. Feels like the lugs on the left foot are fitting my foot better than the right. May need to find a new way ... read more

  2. RUN
blah Forced Rest Day 3 mi 00:26 08:30 pace

Running in the Newtons today on a bit of an incline and the right calf muscle is feeling like it was tweaked a bit, so I stopped the run early...I guess today is a rest day:)

  3. RUN
good Part II 3 mi 00:25 08:26 pace

hahaha you're one of those. I finished 2011 with 592 miles. I noticed I was 8 miles short of 600 with 2 weeks left to go in December. I'll admit I thought about it. I could have done a mile a day and made it easily, but I didn't. That said, great job on 90 miles during a winter month!

Haha...sadly I am one of those, but after posting two less than awesome months at the end of 2011 I'm glad I've got the running bug back!

    Yuck 00:31

My body felt like lead this morning! Good news is I was at work by 7!

  6. RUN
    good January 2012 I love you! 7.02 mi 00:56 08:01 pace

This unseasonable weather is fantastic, it has me pushing my pace. My goal when I left my house was to run 5 miles and push myself...that I did...and then I pushed myself for 2 more.

  7. RUN
quick river run 3.5 mi 00:30 08:25 pace

Ran along the river path while my daughter had dance class this morning...felt pretty good after yesterday's 10.

  8. RUN
good Vampire Diaries Run 10 mi 01:27 08:42 pace

Gusty winds kept me inside today. First double digit run in I don't even know how long, it felt great! Ran the first 5 in my Newtons and then switched back to my Nike's...the first mile back on t... read more

  10. RUN
    Newton Run 2 3 mi 00:25 08:26 pace

I think I might not have been concentrating enough this time...still felt like I was landing near my heal, not my midfoot. Suggestions?

You probably read this, but I know I will occasionally read this over again. #6 is the most important.

      http://www.active.com/running/Articles/How-to-Transition-to-Minimal-Shoes-and-Barefoot-Running.htm?cmp=17-1-1903

I am still making the transition as well. Also measuring your cadence is important as that will tell you if your stride is too long. Long stride = heel strike.

I have Sketcher Shape-ups! I wear them at work. I gave up the minimalist shoes and went back to my old standbys. I still use my VFFs now and then for a little barefoot running, but not for heavy use.

Pretty good article from Rob. Shortening your strider and finding a better center is key to the mid-foot strike. It's about getting your strike to happen under you instead out in front. The best runners actually strike the ground after their forefoot is already moving backwards. A feeling of (VERY SLIGHT) lean forward may help you find that balance.

  11. RUN
    good Treadmill 4 mi 00:30 07:30 pace

I should probably add some time to this run since I jumped on the rails to sip on some water. Body is starting to get used to days with more than one workout...I'm kinda digging it!

  12. swim
laps laps and more laps 00:35

Swim instruction took up all but 2 lanes this morning...seems a bit excessive that none of them have to double up in a lane. Okay done venting! Happy Tuesday!

At least you could get in. We may need a sign in sheet the way our Y pool is so over crowded.

Welcome to the minimal world :-) Take your time with the transition. Focus on mechanics/posture/cadence. Work on keeping that midfoot strike when wearing your regular shoes as well. Wish you well!

Three different people in my Thursday running group swear by them. Good luck in your transition. I am still getting it down, but I do heel strike less.

I totally love my Newtons! On my second pair and I swear my knee has done better overall with the difference in foot strike. I don't put in tons of running miles, but I believe they've made a difference. ENJOY Melissa:)
