North Chagrin + Orange 5k 8.5 mi

Ran a little under 5.5 with my friend Jen early this morning which was great! Then drove out to Orange to spectate a 5k. I need to vent first: Hermes is a local race promotion firm. They have become so unbelievably egregious with the short courses that I seriously don't think I could ever consider a time from one of their races as accurate. This course was tough - hilly and a grass portion and just about everyone ran way faster than they expected and Garmins were all measuring it slightly under 3.0 miles. RIDICULOUS especially considering it started and finished on a track. Just move the start and finish and add 200 meters. How hard is it? And what really sucks is that if you would have run a PR on the course if it was legit you feel funny about it because it's not. I hate that and I feel bad for my friend who would have run almost a minute PR and now feels funny and unsure about how to handle it. /rant Sorry! Anyway, my friend ran super well and I'm super psyched for her. Regardless on the course length she did great and definitely would have run a PR if it was 3.1 so YEAH for her! Got in a little over three running around to get photos and with her on her cool down. Fun morning. Now nap time!

We had a guy at work talk about how the last 5 mile event that they had as being a PR and I didn't want to deflate him by letting him know that the course was around 4.75. I probably won't run any of their events due to this as if I am going to pay money to run a race then I expect the distance to be accurately stated. Isn't it their responsibility to ensure this?

Isnt that the most annoying thing? We have had a ton of those events here too

Nice run and totally agreed on Hermes. I didn't run the 10 miler this past April due to this. All times that I've run it, I come up with 9.9. I'll still run the Turkey Trot, but it is also always short. Very easy to fix like you said.

Sorry about the course frustration...why they would do that continuously makes absolutely no sense. But great running today anyway!

Hmm, I was going to target the 10-miler Sarah mentioned as my A race for the spring, now you have me wondering. Anyway, nice run, I was in your stomping grounds this morning.

@Greg-I was going to also, until I remembered the course being short both times that I ran it. It's a real shame too since the course is great for a PR. I am thinking TP Half for my Spring A race instead...

@Greg and Sarah when i wrote my "How Far Was That Marathon" post I interviewed one of the RDs and he said that he's considered getting the 10 miler course certified, but he said he's afraid what they'd find out! When I ran it in '11 with my garmin it measured 9.98, so it's probably short. It is so silly because they could just make you run a little further on the loop course and if they certified it, as Sarah said, it would be a great race. You should contact them and tell them you'd like it certified!
