alright round and round and round the... 5 mi 00:57 11:18 pace

This was hard. I didn't want to get up and when I got there I didn't want to keep going. I took loads of walking breaks but finished what the plan said. It is my furthest distance to date. Prob... read more

I got under 10 on the pace!! This running lark is a lot about knowing your body isn't it?! I know you probably all already know that, and I've read about it. But today I understood it! I always... read more

That's totally what I do too! I go slow so I won't tire, but I don't realize I'm in better shape and can do more! Way to go, under 10 min/mile pace is awesome!

  5. RUN
good once round the park 2.3 mi 00:24 10:26 pace

How do you increase speed? I've been bumbling along at this pace for ages and I would really like to do a sub 30 5K sometime soon!! Any advice?

    • Kari E.

I'm sure there are some very methodical ways of increasing speed out there, but for me (though I'm not speedy!) it did happen naturally as I became stronger and ran farther distances. I think I've heard that adding speed bursts occasionally can help, but I'm not sure. And you aren't "bumbling" - you're running, and it's a very good pace!

I will try that Fegrig, the idea of running faster between certain points. I tried that today, sort of, but it didn't make much difference to the overall finish time because I had to slow down so much to recuperate!! But I'll keep at it and see if I can do that sub 30 on July 8th! :) I was wondering about increasing distance too Kari. I'm 4 weeks into a 13 week 10k plan, so maybe that will help me too. Thanks you guys!

It's unlikely to yield a faster overall time in the short term Stacey the rationale is to adapt the body to a different pace and load this will in adapt aid the adaption of you to run at a higher ace for longer. If it is a robust 10k plan there should be some speed endurance sessions planned within the schedule.

actually, I made a mistake. Sorry!! I compared it to the wrong run! But I was over a minute faster with the rocky music, and I only stopped once instead of 3 times... Anyway, tomorrow morning I try for 4 miles, longest distance ever for me!
