Disappointing, but overall I'm okay with it. AGAIN, I got another side stitch around mile 2. I have so many theories: started too fast (me?), my breathing was irregular, I didn't drink enough, I drank too much, I ate dinner before the race, I didn't pray to the Run Gods, blah blah blah. Anyway, it sucks b/c I was conscious of previous side stitch issues and really tried to maintain a regular breathing pattern...who knows, really. Anyway, It killed between miles 2 and 3 but I jabbed at it, cursed, walked a bit, cursed, stretched, cursed, but I was resolute that this freakin' thing was not going to kill the entire race for me. It really sucked seeing people I passed passing me! GRRR! I kept going, taking deep breaths, running consistently and I started feeling better and stronger. The sharp pain subsided and I told myself I could run with the dull pain, so that's what I did...and I started passing some fellow turtles! So, even though my pace is not what I hoped for, I am happy that I made myself deal with the stitch and keep going. Of course, at the end, my legs could have kept going! The course was so beautiful...some hills that were really no biggie, but the ocean views were gorgeous--especially close to dusk. I know the race would have been great without the sidestitch.. I really must get rid of them once and for all! Oh, last but not least, always Fantastic to see Tiph at the race!

Great job Sandra! Way to push through despite the stitch.

This could be my race report!!! I got a side stitch at mile 1, managed to run one mile with it while clenching my side and concentrating on slowing my pace and breathing properly. Ended up having to walk for what felt like an eternity.. Grrrrrr ... Shook it off by mile 3.. thank the lord! I had fun though and I hope you did too! The course was absolutely breath taking and the weather was PERFECT.. Can't wait to run it again next year! :)

@Tiph--I guess we're the Side Stitch Sisters tonight! Sorry you had a side stich, too! Pain aside, I loved the race--the course was so beautiful...the ocean, the huge homes, the maniacally barking dog around one corner, (well, maybe not that one). As soon as I was done, I wanted to run it again. Hope it is in the cards next year!

It really sounds like it is a great fun race Sandra and you are tremendously dedicated to keep pushing through! Sorry about your side stitches. I guess you might need to make check lists and journal what you do before all the races where you get these and see if you can narrow it! I think you did a great job!

Thank you guys! @Michelle W. That's a good idea. I should so I can look for a pattern...maybe it's just pushing myself more than usual (than on a usual anyday run). Maybe someone has a voodoo doll....

Nice job pushing through that stitch Sandra!

So sorry I missed you there...hope I don't have to wait until next year to meet you. Yankee Homecoming in Newburyport?
The start to that race can be tricky...I always wind up starting faster than I expect to: you're powering up hill to start then the steep down then it levels off to gentle down: it can fool you.
