So I am pretty sure I broke my ring toe on my right foot (it's the toe next to the pinky toe, I don't know the "proper" name!). It's black, blue, and has a nice ring of red going around it. I can still walk relatively normal (it is apparently far from the most important of the toes...), but I'm not sure of how far I should push my limits. Should I just splint it as best as possible and run within my comfort zone, or should I cut running out altogether for a while?

You see, this is why I am not an elite athlete... I get goofy injuries ALL of the time. I don't understand how human beings make it to the pro levels of any sport, curling included, considering that beyond talent you need to be lucky as hell just to avoid injury. I am SO annoyed with myself right now...

I don't know the answer but I'll send a note of support. I know when hubs broke his pinky toe there really wasn't anything anyone medical could do for it - it just had to heal - but he's not a runner and that's a whole different question. So sorry -- I do understand your frustration!!

I have always just taped my toes to the other one and its fine. Maybe a little sting here and there but nothing we can do for them. I dont splint- just tape it to its neighbors :) No speed but you should be ok to do running. Um so...spill... how did you break it? There has to be a good story :P

Feel your pain! Our daughter broke hers in high school. She didn't go in to get it seen right away - it really wasn't as obvious as yours sounds - they said to tape it as straight as possible. She didn't soon enough, and it actually healed crooked. Maybe strong splinting is a good plan. And then you might not fit it in a shoe?

I broke that toe on the left foot!! Definitely a pain in the... ;) I never splinted or taped it but I did lay off the running while it healed. Lost the toenail in a record 2 days! Good luck! Looks like a good time to do some weights and cross training :)

I did that over the summer. Taped it to the next one. Worked pretty good. Be well

Thanks everyone! I'm def taping to the other toe, it helps. There's actually limited pain, the doc was more concerned with infection than anything. Just trying to stay low-impact on that foot so it will heal as quickly and straight as possible, so cross-training (swimming, upper-body) will be the name of the game for the next 6-8 weeks.
