Great weather and a new route through an awesome long tunnel in Old Town Alexandria. It felt good to be back out there after a pretty good layoff!

So I am pretty sure I broke my ring toe on my right foot (it's the toe next to the pinky toe, I don't know the "proper" name!). It's black, blue, and has a nice ring of red... read more

I don't know the answer but I'll send a note of support. I know when hubs broke his pinky toe there really wasn't anything anyone medical could do for it - it just had to heal - but he's not a runner and that's a whole different question. So sorry -- I do understand your frustration!!

Thanks everyone! I'm def taping to the other toe, it helps. There's actually limited pain, the doc was more concerned with infection than anything. Just trying to stay low-impact on that foot so it will heal as quickly and straight as possible, so cross-training (swimming, upper-body) will be the name of the game for the next 6-8 weeks.

RUN
good Workout Route 2.8 mi 00:36 12:53 pace
The pace sounds slow, but this run was all about incorporating strength training into the workout. The first mile out was a warmup followed by 5x hill repeats. After the hills we did a slow jog/s... read more

RUN
good Mt Vernon Trail 6-Miler 6 mi 00:51 08:28 pace
Ran a nice, cool 6-miler on the Mount Vernon Trail. Every mile marker I would pull to the side of the trail and do 20 pushups, clear my nose (sorry for that mental image!), and get up and go again... read more

RUN
2.54 mi 00:18 07:05 pace
Just a quick out and back this morning to get the blood flowing on a Monday, 2 1/2 miles at just shy of 5K pace. This was a run done on time-constraints and likely Part I of two runs today.

Swimming is all about form & trying to glide through the water efficiently. Bilateral breathing will make you more symmetrical and efficient but not everyone does well with breathing on both sides because they need to breathe more often for oxygen. And you are really not that slow compared to me. My easy 50s are at least 1:05 or more. I have to swim hard sets to barely get under 1 min. There are drills such as fingertip drap, catch-up, zipper drills, and fist drill that can help with getting the rt feel
