OMG, I can't believe I was on the bike for 6 HOURS?! Granted there were a few stops, some planned, some unplanned, but still...73 miles is more than I've ever attempted.
I met up with my friend Jeff who I haven't seen since January and he took me to Long Island to find some scenery. The first half of the ride was great as we hit some nice quiet roads, and some beautiful trees. We even visited the Oyster Bay beach which was magnificent
The second half of the ride was adventurous and filled with way too much drama. First of all, we got lost and had to ask for directions. Second of all, it poured cats and dogs for a good 15 minutes. The ground was wet and threatened to flood and we had no place to hide. Luckily it stopped eventually but the damage had been done. Then I fell a couple times not being able to clip out at a traffic light/turn while on an uphill. I wasn't seriously hurt. Finally, my friend blew out a tire but couldn't get the wheel of his bike off (it was deadbolted to the frame and we had to patch it up while the tire was still on the wheel. It worked though so onward we go. We passed by a few college campuses on the ride back which was quite nice. Eventually, after 6 hours of riding, we got ourselves back to the green trail and eventually home.
It was longest time I've ever spent on a bike and it was the longest bike ride I've ever gone. Good times!
