good Pacing NYRR LTR #1 16 mi 01:54 07:08 pace

I paced the 7min/mi group at the NYRR Long Training Run this morning. Although I wasn't sure how many miles I'd be able to do at 7min/mi pace considering that I hadn't run longer than 14 in months, I just did the best I could and surprised myself in running 16 miles! No, I didn't keep pace the entire way...only the first 14 and ran/walked mile 15 and busted it home at mile 16. Still, it was more than I thought I was capable of given that I did 7 yesterday morning and my legs/feet felt slightly sore even when started. Oh and did I tell I didn't even have my Garmin today...yep, left it at home and didn't realize it until I was at the park. So I had to ask others to know whether I was going at the right speed.

I was going to stop after 11, because it was very muggy. I took off my shirt just to enhance cooling. A little while later, I hear the MC asking if there were still any 7min/mi group pacers because there were still 4-5 guys at the start waiting for pacers. I knew the others had gone ahead so I volunteered to pace another 5 miles SHIRTLESS. None of them held on after the first two miles. I died too at mile 14 but I was already running by my self at this point so it hardly mattered.

Still, it was great fun and I saw a lot of happy faces crossing the finish line, content that they had successfully completed another long run on their schedule.
