This race was a HEARTBREAK for me.
Drove an hour from home to run a race in 23F and Wind chill of 8!
Figured to have a good race because my training had been going well.

Oooof! That is some tough race condition! I know how you feel! At some races everything clicks and you have a badass race at others it's quite the opposite. You know you're in much better shape, your training is solid, just chalk it up as a bad day. It sucks when the bad day coincides with a semi-target race.

For those in the know, is recovery pace supposed to be the same, faster, or slower than your long run pace? That's the question I thought about today while running this pre-Super Bowl recovery run... read more
i'm hardly an expert but slower. the whole idea is to get blood moving to flush out muscles, not much more. can't see there being any real training benefit to recovery days that don't err on the side of recovery.

Nice recovery pace Lam. On my recovery runs I try to go pretty slow. If it's the day after a long run, I'll run about 60-90sec slower and just get the blood flowing. If its after a shorter day, maybe more speed work, I'll only be 30-60sec slower/mile. Congrats on the award!

I have the same problem, and have failed miserably at progression attempts in the past. I did 3 progressive loops today and it was OK, but the last loop was harder than I would have liked. Definitely focusing on this for my spring marathon training, because I want to finish strong instead of fading.
Great progressive 11 Lam. I struggle with starting off too fast as well. You nailed this one and sounds like it really agreed with your body. Love it when I run fast and don't even realize it.
