great North Face 50-Mile Endurance Challenge 50.03 mi 11:22 13:38 pace

My first official 50-miler is in the books! I was also able to hit my goal to finish in less than 12 hours!

Aside from the great weather, walking the big climbs and running the downhills worked out for me, then breaking the course down into segments, so I saved energy early on and finished strong. The aid stations were well-placed too- about every 5 miles- so I got to fuel right when I needed it. And finally, I’m amazed at how my legs felt great even when I was pushing it. There were times that my quads would tighten up a bit but walking the climbs sort of gave them a reprieve. Moving forward, I think I already figured out the proper approach for future ultras I would be running.
