great Richard's 5K SF Run 3.18 mi 00:25 07:55 pace

Headed to SF's Golden Gate Park for my very 1st 5K race which was made extra special because I got my non-regular-running high school buddies to join me. It was overcast and started to drizzle a few minutes before gun (or bell) time, but stayed relatively cloudy throughout the entire race. Turned out to be a perfect running weather because it was not as cold & windy as The City is notorious for.

Since there was no timing chip, I had to rely on my Garmin Forerunner 305. I couldn't believe I was running at sub-8 minutes on my 1st mile and tried to maintain it until a couple of shoe lace malfunctions (Note to self: Never race with new shoes!). So mile 2 was a little bit over 8 minutes, then I finished strong towards the last mile w/ an average of 7:43 minutes. I thought I was among the front-liners and it felt great to realize that I finished 7th ahead of close to 100 other runners, setting a PR of 25:12 minutes, based from my Garmin 305. I couldn't recall the exact official clock display, but it registered a few seconds over 25 minutes, and I didn't stop my Garmin immediately after crossing the finish line, so both figures were close.

Aside from setting a 5K PR, my legs, particularly my calves & knees, didn't feel any pain, so it was really an awesome day for me. To top it off, my friends were able to set their respective PRs as well, and planning to take their running to the next level!

Awesome!! Really your first 5k? And always so exciting to get friends into running and racing. :)

Seriously! Been only to 3 official races this year, so far: 10K in May, Half Marathon in July and this 5K. Great feeling to have motivated my friends into running!
