I started at just under a 6:00 pace (5:56 I think at the first mile) and I was in one pack. I decided to move up and joined another pack. I probably reached them some time after mile 3 and one person in the pack was saying the pace when we would hit a new mile. So up through about mile 7 I know we were holding just barely a sub-5:50 pace. I didn't hear him much for the rest of the race, but I spent a lot of it jockeying for position with these people. I kept them close. Then once I hit the last mile I decided to really push and sure enough I dropped the pack and was able to hold strong through the end. This was a tough race, but it turned out really well.
