Richard Verasamy saw the cutest physio...
Dailymile makes it easy to keep track of your workouts. Map your routes and share with a community of active people.
Saw the cutest Physiotherapist (don't tell my wife) and it appears that I developed shin splints when I switched shoes after the Milton half a few weeks ago ( apparently you should never run long distances with relatively new shoes and you should run your marathon with the shoes you did most of your training with. Apparently, there are lots of other newbies like me in the same situation). I now now see the direct correlation with the timing of when I started having problems and am kicking myself for not putting it together myself sooner). Anyways, I seem to also have limited hip extension due to previous back problems. Regardless, I am all taped up and am told that I can run Sunday but to revert back to my old shoes and the pain should be reduced ( my kids will have a blast as they think its funny that dad wears shoes with some orange colour). I will test it out tonight. Am excited again and hope that doesn't change after tonight's tryout with old shoes and kinesiology tape....

A great outcome Richard. I am very excited for you :)

Bit bloody late for this advice but when you are hitting 30-40 miles a week, I find it is good to rotate your shoes. i.e. have two different pairs (preferably different brands). The oldest pair I use for the long race and after the race the newer ones become the older ones etc... That and one days cycling does the ankles wonder and loosens them up.

In the days when I wore shoes, I used to rotate among three pairs of shoes. Now, I fund it much easier to run barefoot. (Not to be argumentative, but barefoot runners seldom, if ever, get shin splints.)

Wonderful news! I never suspected new shoes. Looking for you Sunday! I usually rotate between my two pairs of shoes -- minimus and xtrail -- with short runs done barefoot if I can. So glad you went to see a professional!

That sounds very familiar Richard. I also started having problems after changing shoes!! It's crazy what our feet get used to! I think I'll be following suit this weekend and wearing my old ones!!
