good Walk to/fr. Starbucks 4.5 mi

After walking 2 mi. to the nearest Starbucks, arriving shortly after 5am, it's closed, even tho it's sposed to be open 4am! Two employees are shivering in chairs outside (it's about 52degrees), waiting for the person with the key to arrive. I didn't feel like giving up and walking back home, and i had a good podcast to listen to, so I walked the big shopping center parking lot 3x to kill time.

I eventually sat and chatted with the two young employees another 10 min, until FINALLY the manager shows up with the key. But wait! She says "it'll be another 20-30 min. before we can open the store." A total of 45 minutes before i could get in and get a bit of work done on my laptop.

Mileage includes the walk back to my brother's place that I'll be doing in an hour or two.

Bill -- you shoulda' seen the cop who showed up, looking like middle of shift. Super disappointed. Was probably thinking, "do they still make donut shops?" ;)

Did they give you a free coffee at least? Shivering at 52? LOL

No!! No free coffee, for what became a 45 min. delay. Sure - I could raise a stink by posting about it on Facebook and tagging the post to Starbucks, and they might do something about it. But, nah, I got bigger fish to fry in life than spending an hour being "right" and ugly. I'd rather call it an adventure in the palette of my life, move on, and focus on kindness -- always the better choice over being right, I figure. :)

Agree with that philosophy to a point. Make it known politely that this was not convenient and poorly planned but then move on.

I was just going to ask you if they gave you a free coffee. And I agree with you about not raising a stink, but I agree with Pierre, too.

I've raised many a stink in life, when the situation, I felt, warranted it (as recently as yesterday, when a Home Depot screwed up my brother's "online order for pickup" for instance). But I've had HUNDREDS of excellent experiences in a Starbucks, and felt that this was a mere anomaly, not something requiring a corporate course correction. And, honestly, it was no big deal for me; I didn't miss an important date; I merely got more exercise and got more time to listen to my podcast. :)
