RNR 13.1: My Nikeplus accidentally paused for about a mile - so approx a mile is missing from my distance and time. I ended up finishing with a worst ever time of 3hrs 30 mins. I had a lot of fun this time, I honestly decided when I realized the oppressive humidity and knew I'd not trained properly, that I was simply going to enjoy the experience. The crowds were great, the bands were great and I caught myself singing out loud a few times as I rocked out to my tunes on the iPod. I took the advice of Steve, Ashleigh, Kim and Steve R and ran/walked the whole thing. I felt really good early on, but at mile 8 my knee/shin really began to hurt. I'm not sure if its my joint or a tight muscle or tendon, but each time I'd take off to run, a sharp enough pain kept me from continuing to run. I tried to run through the pain a few times, but I simply couldn't keep it going. I wanted to finish and was afraid of what I was feeling. I literally walked the entire last 3 miles, and after such a long walk, the knee felt better and I could run with no pain the last .5. So it must be a muscle or tendon that needed stretching? I don't know, I just know it was a strange pain that was frustrating b/c I could have run so much more than I did. It motivates me to train, train, train so that I have a much better experience next time! I still enjoyed myself and am looking forward to running the WHOLE thing next time! I'm registered for the Wicked 10K and the backstage 3mi amphitheater run in Oct. Now I have to focus on training consistently so that I can improve!

Really wise move to not push past the sharp pain...and your reward was that it worked itself out! Good work on a day w/brutal conditions! Good luck in your continued training...love your attitude!
