I wish I had some advice for you, but I haven't gone to see anyone for my "pains". It seems they mostly just prescribe pain meds and say to stop running. I really hope you can get to the bottom of this soon.

Clint Janson (fellow DMer and organizer of the Hope 5K and 10K in Spokane) just posted (on facebook: Hope Run 2013) a recommendation for Acceleration Physical Therapy, naming doctors Beth and Dave specifically. He has used them personally and gives them a thumbs up. I haven't visited them myself but I trust Clint's opinion. www.accelerationphysicaltherapy.com

Hang in there. Do you have a sports medicine or ortho doc in your area? You might consider going. I've been there, done that, but I'm glad I went each time. I suffered from bursitis in both knees, and a torn Sartorius muscle. Separate injuries, but my ortho doc saved me. Just a thought, so you know what your dealing with. Hugs!!

The knee and quad pain seems right for ITBS, but mine hasn't ever really gone down into my calf. In addition to foam folling and stretching, I have also done a lot of icing using a frozen styrofoam cup of water. You peel the styrofoam off as you rub the frozen ice vigorously where it hurts. Those things and cross training helped me to make it through a marathon last year in spite of some very significant ITBS.
