Another messy one mile. Slobber, cold snot, cold sweat, & man fat everywhere.
A little closer already to my 1st goal of 2009: to running a 10:00 mile. When I set this "goal" for 2009, I didn't see it as being this achievable. I was running a consistent 12:00 mile when I ran 2 to 3 miles. I didn't think I would hit it this fast. But it has taught me something about setting goals.
If I were to set the goal of running 10 miles in 1:40:00, it might happen, but right now, that goal is DEFINITELY not attainable. Every time I would run 3 miles over 40:00 I would be discouraged and thinking I would never get there. However, if I set a lot of little goals to check off, like 10:00 1 milers, 9:00 1 milers, 8:00 1 milers, 20:00 - 16:00 2 milers, 30:00 - 24:00 3 milers, 80:00 - 60:00 6 milers, ... then the 2:10:00 10 miler is doable. As is the 1:55:00 and finally my 1:40:00 10 miler.
To win the war, I've gotta fight all the little battles and WIN.
So, I've set these little bench mark time goals to take me where I want to go. Right now, I'm dead set on my 10:00 1 miler and I'm gonna get it soon. Then, 20:00 2 miler, here I come!!!
