At one and the same time I wanted to title this entry "A Humbling Experience" and "I Am Ultra!", however the latter seemed a bit to arrogant for my first ultramarathon finish (especially given the way it all played out) and the former is more accurate and accounts for the tale of my race. It'll likely take me a or two to fully digest and writeup my race report, but in the meantime here are some quick stats first.
I had an unofficial finish of 8:02, only 1 1/2 hours beyond our estimate for the race and only partially due to the heat. My race report will detail all the issues, but I know the estimate was right as my training partner who was also running this today finished within just a couple of minutes of the estimate. She was able to stay on plan and rocked it. Me? Give me a couple of days.
The race began in 67 degree temperatures that rose quickly. The average temperature was 95 with the max temp coming in at 110. A bit of an issue to deal with for an experienced ultramarathoner. For a first timer....I'm very pleased I didn't have a significant heat issue as part of my experience.
I burned only 6564 calories which strikes me as low for the effort today.
My mile splits came in as seen below. Not the fabulous 53 minute mile buried in there; that's when I stayed at an aid station for well on a half hour and got my head (and body) back in gear to continue. Let me just say at this time, if the radio operator had been next to the aid station as opposed to another 50 feet up the hill I likly would have DNF'ed as I walked into the station. Thankfully he wasn't, and the aid station workers knew exactly how to get me reset to target "at least the next aid station".
Mile splits: 9:31, 10:33, 10:46, 12:32, 13:56, 16:05, 10:37, 12:41, 12:02, 10:34, 8:55, 8:59, 14:07, 13:44, 12:-7, 11:39, 14:38, 14:50, 52:12, 22:35, 28:39, 26:49, 16:12, 13:58, 22:36, 14:10, 13:32, 26:03, 16:14, ?, ?.
Note: even after 8 hours in the heat and a substantially bad experience multiple times during the race I give this a "I feel great!" tag because, well, I AM ULTRA! :-)

Congrats! Don't put stock in those calorie counters, lol. I think the Ultra experience wont really be complete with all those thoughts of DNF'ing, yet not doing it. That's really the essence of it, the not.giving.up because you.are.ultra!
