I guess the bright pink I'm wearing was not enough for the couple of inconsiderate drivers this morning. At least it was on the way home and NOT with the kids.

I was on the sidewalk (the little bit if sidewalk I ride on because of traffic) and there was a car turning right out of the parking lot, so she didn't even look at me, I was riding against traffic, which I hate doing.

The second I was on the street nearly home. there was a car backing out of a driveway and I had to stop for HIM for a few moments. I wasn't sure he saw me either, because he kept backing out. UGH!!!!!!!

I was careful and observant. These two driver's were not.

PS: How's this for irony... When I was leaving Chesterbrook, one of the other parents was wearing a neon green shirt and I commented to him how I needed one of those. ~sigh~

This is why I always feel so much less safe riding on sidewalks than on roads, on sidewalks we're less visible and less predictable to the drivers, and that means we're less safe (as a general rule). There are times I do ride them, but when riding the sidewalk any driveway or intersection I treat as huge danger zones. I assume I'm invisible no matter what I'm wearing. And the thing is, as bikes we're moving at the wrong speed in the wrong place for where drivers are looking. I'd like to blame them comp

oops, i guess it cut me off w/o telling me! oh well, I didn't have much more to say other than I'm glad you're okay! And you can get safety vests at any bike shop or online. Pretty cheap, and they're usually mostly mesh, and can just go right over whatever you're wearing. :)

I really HATE riding on the sidewalk and will do so when I really have no other choice. Shortly after that point is when I hope on the street again. :)

But I will look into getting a neon green riding vest.

That's how I am too. I always seem to have one place where I feel the need to get on the sidewalk, and it is such a relief to get off!

I have a safety vest, but I got tired of wearing it, so I don't anymore. For better or worse! In the colder months, my windbreaker is eye-burningly bright yellow though. :D

I saw a yellow riding vest today and thought of you.

I had 4 bikes pass me on a 3 foot wide sidewalk today. I almost stepped into the BIKE LANE to avoid getting hit! :P
