Not good. Tired and heavy legs, much worse today than yesterday. I do tend to be prone to DOMS, and somehow I always forget about that, and I'm all surprised by it, again. I'm going to chalk it up to fatigue training and leave it at that. Moving furniture around for 2 hours last night probably didn't help. No swim or bike for me today. I have had people working on my place of residence all day, and I came home to find out they are still here, and so now I have to be here until they are done. Oh well - I can probably use the night off anyway.

Serious question- why wouldn't you take a day off after a hard race? The best athletes I know do exactly that. You are clearly serious and devoted to your athletics. OK that's as much nagging as I'll do.

Could try a "normal people" recovery run of say 20-30 min too. ;) An easier day sounds like something you really need. Take it to recover well from the race, then you get the training adaptations and will be ready to go again!

Because I planned to "train through" Blue Lake on my way to my Half IM and IM races ths year. I didn't taper for it at all, because in my plan it was actually a "C" race, and I actually didn't go all out or as fast as I could have. I will taper for and take days off after my Half IM and IM races in a few weeks. I do have some days off scheduled in here and there though.

I see. That's a totally fair strategy if you treat the race as a training event. You're a smart girl. I trust if you need to rest you will.

Having been strictly a runner only before I started tris, I really think triathlon training is different than strict run training because of the cross training involved. In triathlon training you can handle much higher training volumes.

Great run, despite the heavy legs! There it is! I knew I could not stay ahead of you in miles through the end of the day!! I can relate, since at the end of my run today, my feet and legs were feeling really achy and slow... DOMS seems to whoop my ass on a regular basis, unless I workout before it kicks in...

Nice recovery tired legs DOMS fatigue heavy sluggish run...LOL!! So true, you likely cooked your legs on that wicked bike power session! If you were't tired, then you didn't race hard. Trust me, next week your legs will be fresh, strong and "happy". My recovery motto is "Savor the Slow". Congrats again on the race!

Take care of you! What you manage to do, in terms of training volume is way above my pay grade! I do know it's a fine line sometimes and injuries seem to happen when people are riding limits :-)

LOL! I do the same thing! I have really had to restrain myself from "flushing" and limit myself to walking. Very new to me and I gotta say, it pays off.

Sometimes you have to listen to your body! The last thing you need right now is to overtrain and burn yourself out.
