great Top of Utah Marathon 26.2 mi 04:05 09:20 pace

Beautiful day for a marathon! It was 38 degrees at the start and about 70 at the finish. The start is up in the mountains so that is why there is such a big difference.

I blazed through the first half and kept on pace for a 4 hr finish until about mile 20. Then that horrible feeling came over me and my legs felt like sandbags and my feet turned into bricks. I wish bonking could give you a little warning and not just happen. Anyway, I think I ran too fast on the downhill and killed my quads. The 2nd half of the race is somewhat flat but did have several hills that I didn't remember from last year. Probably because last year I was just out to have a good time. Next year I know I can break 4 hrs. Overall I'm still very happy. I got a 25 minute PR today!!!
