I intended to go out and do a loop through the office parks near the NRO; however, there were some trail closures so I took the detour thinking it would lead me back to the office park loop. It didn't. I kept following the trail, because it was going in the general direction that I needed go. Everything seemed to going well until the paved trail stopped. Tracks continued in the snow and there seemed to be a well-worn path, so I continued. Next I hit a bog, but luckily someone else had placed about 10 cinderblocks across the gunk. The trail continued. Next bog approaching, but someone has laid down two tree trunks to cross this area. After a few hundred more feet the paved trail starts back up. I had wound around through the woods to near Westfields High School. The path there still has at least 4 inches of snow; however, once I was back on Stonecroft the trails cleared off again. Whoever blazed that trail where the pavement ended I thank you.

Wow...that is quite the adventure, and a nice longer than intended run. Have you ever run the Cub Run trail that is over that way close to Westfields? There is only about 3 miles and then another 1.5 miles on the other side but you can do an out and back or run over there from out neighborhood. Some paved and some trail. Sounds like you may have actually hit part of it today.

Not sure if that is the trail or not. I took a left on a trail just past the police station thinking it would bring me into the office park area somewhere near the Marriot. It ends up looping out around the office park and bringing you out onto the road near Westfields HS.

I think that is part of that trail. I don't know much about some of those other trails around the NRO. Eric says that some of them are being built out further and rerouted.

Very cool, Rob. It's easy to lose yourself on the trail and put in more miles than intended. Peace and solitude helps a lot. We'll have to go on a trail run someday. Next thing you know, you'll be toeing the line at Leadville...
